In research, it is common to make mistakes, and we learn from those mistakes. In contrast, careless shall not be tolerated in research activities. In this presentation, I will present two cases that might involve some level of mistakes and/or careless. On of them is the investigations to identify the nature of a stochastic variable star HO Pup (Be star or dwarf nova?), and another case study is the search for extra-tidal RR Lyrae in globular cluster NGC5024. The presentation will be ended with general advise for young students and junior researchers。
