Thermalization in a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate with random disorder

We numerically study the thermalization in a two-dimensional trapped Bose-Einstein condensate with random disorder. Through the effect of disorder, the system initially undergoes breathing motion and eventually reaches equilibrium. It is shown that the equilibrium condensate behaves as a noninteracting gas which obeys the Bose-Einstein statistics at a well-defined temperature. The finding indicates that quantum mechanics can be unified with statistical mechanics in the present system.
