Quantum computing is an entirely new paradigm of computation that promises to solve some of the most difficult problems that are currently intractable on classical supercomputers. Thus tech giants and leading research groups around the world have been actively trying different physical systems to build practical quantum computers. In this talk, I will discuss recent development on semiconductor silicon-based quantum computing, from the basic science through to its prospects and challenges for large-scale realization based on CMOS manufacturing. After that, I will discuss the effort in quantum computing at the National Taiwan University (NTU).
